Choose Your Own Adventure

"One who waits, need not do, for waiting is a task in itself. One who does, need not wait, for waiting is no longer needed."

Simply put, I am sick of waiting, therefore I am doing.

Alright folks, between blog comments, facebook comments, and word of mouth, this is the list of things people have told me they are most interested in trying someday:

Ziplining
Skydiving
Bungee-jumping
Riding in a hot air balloon
Traveling to a foreign country
Riding in a super fast rollercoaster
Riding in a racecar
Swimming with dolphins
Helping out on an archaeological dig
White water rafting
Visiting (and participate) at a nude beach

So with this information, I'd like to propose an offer to the bloggers of the world: vote in the poll at the right (next to my other poll sending me to a random country), and I'll do whichever activity gets the most votes. I'll blog about the cost, the experience, my fears, feelings, broken bones and anything else that might be helpful. I'll try and include weblinks, pictures, and hopefully even video.

If there's anything else you're interested in, or any specific questions you want to make sure I address (the risks involved, length of time of a freefall, costs of extras like photos or videos, locations where the activity is available) make sure to leave me a comment (or shoot me an email) and I'll do everything I can to make sure you get the information you need.

Since all of these activities cost money (that I probably don't have) I have the "donation jar" (which should be functional this week) on the side. Any donation goes to whichever activity you are interested in learning more about. If you donate make sure to leave me a comment or email so I know which activity to apply it to!

If you've ever had a reason for avoiding something you've always wanted to do, I hope I can inspire you to try. To me something seems less frightening with done with a friend. And in this case, maybe all you need is a friend to go first!

So how 'bout it, friends?

  1. Visiting from Monday Mingle. I think it's good to do someething you've always wanted to try. Me, I'm a chicken. Not much of the adventurous type. Motherhood I have to say is my biggest adventure besides roadtripping around watcing various hockey games. I wouldn''t trade it for the world.
I don't do heights or anything fast...I get motion sick. Pathetic, I know. But I think I would like to try white water rafting (though I may throw up) and I know I'd love to swim with dolphins. I think that would be amazing!

  4. I love white water rafting! I'm just curious about a nude beach, but I think it's against my religion. I'm afraid of heights and have no desire to the first few. I'd rather go swimming with my kids than dolphins. Am I just not that adventurous? I don't know. I'm leaning towards the other country thing, which you're already going to do. What a great idea, though. I can't wait to see what you do.

  13. Of course my brain is failing me right now but I am sure you can look things up online much faster than I can. I know that there are organizations that allow you to do "adventure volunteering" (ie archaeological dig and others)and all it costs you is the travel to get there (wherever.) Once there they feed and shelter you. I am sure that if you could show you get X number of page views weekly on your blog and promise to write about something (ie ziplining or bungee jumping) you could get a free experience. Think creatively and do not be afraid to ask.
I used to work for a publication that paid writers to visit campgrounds and give their honest opinion. Some enterprising writers then parlayed that into getting campground owners to give them free nights stay or free upgrades without promising the top reviews.
There is a whole online culture of full time RV bloggers. I am sure there are also "cheap" travelers.
Have you seen the tv show "art race" or read the red paperclip story? It is all in how you spin the ideas.
Also read up on "closing the deal." It is interesting how far you can get using the phrase "Can I ask for a favor?"
